CYSTIC FIBROSIS

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease that causes the body to produce abnormally thick and sticky mucus that builds up in the lungs and pancreas. The collection of the mucus can lead to decreased lung function, life-threatening lung infections, digestive problems, and reproductive problems. CF is the most common, deadly, inherited disease that affects Caucasians in the U.S.

I have been interested in CF since I began dating my husband 8 years ago. We currently have a niece who is 10 years old that was diagnosed with CF when she was 1 year old. I am always looking for the latest research and up-to-date information to stay on top of treatment options and things to expect in her health and care. Fortunately for use she is doing exceptionally well, but I am always preparing myself for the problems that could arise.

The following websites that I have listed are ones that I visit frequently to gain knowledge and look for updates about cystic fibrosis. These websites are all government or organizational websites that are updated by qualified professionals. All of these sites have “About Us” sections, footnotes/links to where the information came from, are up to date,  have objectivity, and authority. All of these sites can be used for educational purposes or for those who are trying to learn/cope with their own/or families disease.
